Steven Gerrard has admitted that the pitch at Ibrox is awful.

The club’s 2018 Annual Report reported plans to spend £1.5m on a new hybrid pitch but it’s unclear if any work was done.

Since lowering the pitch a number of years ago there has been regular problems with flooding with the pitch seeing little in the way of sunlight due to the design of the four stands.

Last night the pitch cut up badly in the match against Hibs forcing Gerrard to comment on the most important aspect of the Five Star stadium.

Discussing the state of the Ibrox pitch The Sun reports Gerrard saying: “Yeah, it’s awful. We are trying (to sort it), we are trying. We’re trying to find a solution. We’re trying.”

Ibrox has hosted five matches since the turn of the year with rainfall no more than average for this time of the year.

Gerrard takes his men to the plastic pitches of Hamilton and Kilmarnock for their next two matches before hosting Livingston on February 15 followed by Braga five days later.
