Almost un-noticed Scott Bain returned to the Celtic squad today for the first time since August.

The former Dundee keeper was injured during the 4-3 Champions League defeat from Cluj which set off an unexpected chain of events in the goalkeeping department.

Just as Craig Gordon was enjoying a recall to first team action Fraser Forster returned from Southampton, made his latest debut at home to Hearts then strolled through a Glasgow derby at Ibrox as Celtic exerted their authority on the domestic challenge.

Gordon was subject of strong speculation during the transfer window but with Bain unavailable and Hearts sticking with Jose Pereira it seemed that there were little or no options available for the 37-year-old who is looking to play his way back into the Scotland squad.

Discussing his back-up keepers’, The Sun reported Lennon saying:

It’s an awkward decision for everyone. From the club’s point of view we don’t want to let him go, but from a human side I can totally understand where he’s coming from.

It’s hard for a keeper, it’s a completely individual position but he’s training great, he looks great, it’s just that Fraser Forster is our No?1 choice right now. Scott is fit, but he’s still having a bit of a problem every now and then with the thumb.

If Bain can prove his fitness Gordon could go out on loan to a Scandinavian side with the Norwegian window still open. Conor Hazard and Ross Doohan are out on loan at Dundee and Ayr United.
