After his playing career ended McNamara had spells in management at Partick Thistle, Dundee United and York City.
At Dundee United he enjoyed relative success where he helped develop players such as Stuart Armstrong, Andy Robertson, Ryan Gauld and John Souttar. While in charge of the club they reached the final of the League Cup and Scottish Cup.
In recent times he has been working as a football consultant with Callum McGregor and Vakoun Bayo among his clients.
With Jackie in hospital everyone will be supporting him and his family and hoping that he is soon restored to full health.
