Chris Long faces a wait to discover if he is cited by the SFA but can take comfort from John Beaton’s interpretation of a similar incident involving Alfredo Morelos.

Midway through the first half the Motherwell striker was seen stamping on Scott Brown’s leg with referee Don Robertson already awarding a free kick while assistant David Roome also had a clear view of the incident. Neither official felt that a booking or red card was merited.

After the initial pain Brown quickly got back to his feet and didn’t make anything of it. Celtic players didn’t race to the scene to jostle with Long.

In December 2018 Beaton saw Morelos stamp on the back of Tony Ralston, a few days later the striker celebrated the incident on his Instagram account.

Celtic requested an explanation and transparency on the incident, a year later it emerged that the referee viewed the incident, took no action and the SFA were unable to over-rule that view.
