Radio Scotland’s Sportsound programme is soldiering on despite the shadow cast by Michael Stewart over the show.
The state broadcaster likes to think that it is cutting edge with its debate and analysis, calling on a large pool of talking heads to share their views on football.
A couple of weeks ago Michael Stewart aired the truth that dare not speak. He described someone behind the scenes as a bully and dangerous. It made for great radio and confirmed what may listeners had read of and discussed across social media.
Host Kenny MacIntyre almost went into meltdown, he tried stopping Stewart a few times but it was an uneven contest. Stewart had more know-how and clout than the bungling MacIntyre could ever dream of.
The next night MacIntyre apologised because the Ibrox PR man wasn’t in the studio to defend himself. Sportsound doesn’t think twice of criticising other people not in the studio to defend themselves.
Tonight for debate the BBC invited along the SFA’s Communications Manager to put a spin on the incredible James Keatings suspension.
The desperate line to push is that the main thing is that the SFA are going to get to the right conclusion, Keatings will play.
In the big picture very few folk care about the players involved in the Tunnocks Challenge Cup Final, Gary Lineker is unlikely to be looking in on coverage from BBC Alba.
Lurking within the trusted Panel Members of the SFA is someone that can’t watch through a 20 second video clip and someone that thought referee Greg Aitken was right to book Keatings.
A proper debate about the SFA is as likely as off message pundits like Stewart being allowed to air their views on the airwaves of the state broadcaster.
On air with @TEnglishSport & @DarrylBroadfoot debating the ongoing saga regarding James Keating’s tribunal hearing – the controversial outcome having now been rendered invalid by the SFA & a fresh appeal granted.
What’s wrong with the system?

No @mstewart_23 , not listening. Pandering to jim traynor when he does nothing for the good of the Scottish game.

Get @mstewart_23 back on so there is something worth listening to. @DarrylBroadfoot just sings from the SFA hymn sheet. It’s boring.

Not interested in listening till you reverse this decision on @mstewart_23 – you are meant to be a public broadcaster!?!
— Andrew Donnelly (@donners32) February 24, 2020
Why is the @scottisFA’s paid lackey allowed to spout nonsense on their behalf without any hard questions?
— WeKnowSFA (@WeKnowSFA) February 24, 2020
Do you think that you should be discussing the incompetent member of the tribunal when he is not available for rebuttal and not there to answer his critics.
— DeesideDon?? (@DeesideDon) February 24, 2020
Don’t Tom or Darryl have an ounce of solidarity with @mstewart_23 ?
Is this now about some personal animosity between Michael and @kennymacsport ?
Us, the license payers and listeners need some clarity.— C J Robertson (@CJR0bertson) February 24, 2020
Who’s opinion is Darryl promoting and as for the #puppet I’ll pass

It basically makes every appeal up until now regardless of its been successful or not as questionable! Us as fans knew that anyway, such was the inconsistency of the decisions.@ScottishFA & every1 involved in it aren’t fit 4 purpose. Time to get football people running the game!

Broadfoot struggling here. The idea of an independent panel is good but here we have an example of one member confirming they hadn’t adhered to the rules. A second member made a ludicrous decision. Don’t blame lawyers – the rules are clear, just badly implemented by incompetents

Stewart hasn’t appeared on Radio Scotland or Sportscene since upsetting MacIntyre with his opinions.
