Peter Lawwell has finally found his voice as Celtic take Sky to task over their damaging interpretation of an interview with Alfredo Morelos.

According to the broadcaster the Ibrox striker discussed racist comments made by Celtic supporters with those views carried throughout Monday on Sky Sports and Sky News, across their other platforms and by other news outlets.

Basic scrutiny of the interview by Spanish speakers revealed that the subtitles used bore little resemblance to the words spoken by Morelos, one Columbian journalist described it as the worst translation that he had ever witnessed.

Late on Tuesday afternoon Celtic asked for an explanation from Sky, an hour before a full card of SPFL Premiership fixtures the broadcaster issued an APOLOGY with no explanation over how they came about their translation.

Celtic have shown little appetite to go into battle over a number of issues in recent years from refereeing matters to SFA governance but at lunchtime today that changed.

Responding to the Sky statement Celtic opted to escalate the issue to Ofcom with Lawwell putting his name to the follow up statement.

The Celtic statement asks Ofcom the following questions:

1     Who was responsible for the inaccurate translation?

2     What steps were taken by Sky Television to ascertain the accuracy, or otherwise, of the translation provided?

3     What part did Sky Television play in briefing the story, based on the inaccurate translation, to the wider media?

Sky will show live coverage of next Sunday’s SPFL match away to Aberdeen but unless they come up with full disclosure for the motives behind their Morelos interview it looks like co-operation with Celtic is at an end.
