Two weeks today Celtic will be putting the finishing touches to their preparations to face Copenhagen in the Europa League in the Danish capital.

On the same day the SFA will be hitting the Scottish champions with a charge of failing to control their players in two matches.

One of the charges relates to the reaction to the ridiculous penalty awarded to Partick Thistle by Alan Muir over a month earlier.

During the first half of the match Muir didn’t see a clear push on Jeremie Frimpong as he beat Jamie Penrice and prepared to send the ball across goal. He did decide that a brilliantly timed interception by the young defender in the final minute was in fact a foul with Thistle scoring from the penalty.

In the next round of the Scottish Cup Muir will be in charge of Steven Gerrard’s side away to Hamilton Accies.

Sunday’s charge relates to the aftermath of the non-stamp from Leigh Griffiths on Sam Woods. Trial by Sportscene has been replaced by Guilty from McCoist, Thompson and McFadden.

Asked about his reaction to the charges Neil Lennon told the Daily Record: “I thought it was ridiculous. We’ll wait and see what happens, but I didn’t think there was anything in it. The media didn’t even ask me about it, so I’m hoping nothing comes of it. I’m surprised by it.”

Last month the SFA found Ryan Christie guilty of brutality, next month he is expected to be named in the Scotland squad for the Euro 202 Play Off semi-final.

In June 2019 SFA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell said ‘I don’t think we would let it go for ever’ when asked about a decision on the 2011 UEFA licence issued to Rangers after new evidence was presented by Celtic.
