Scottish Cup blow for Celtic youngster

After five SPFL Premiership wins on the bounce Neil Lennon is expected to make a number of changes to his team for Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie away to Clyde.

One player who won’t be involved on Sunday is Stephen Welsh who has already played in the competition for Morton.

The young defender impressed away to Hamilton on Sunday but was replaced by Jozo Simunovic in the 4-0 win at Motherwell with the former Dinamo Zagreb stopper on the end of a couple of knocks.

Unfortunately, while Celtic were preparing to face Partick Thistle at Firhill Welsh was in the Morton side that lost 3-0 away to St Johnstone to end his interest in the Scottish Cup.

After playing for Celtic in a Glasgow Cup tie against Clyde Welsh was recalled by his parent club and listed as a substitute for the SPFL match at home to Ross County.

Earlier this season Greg Taylor suffered similar frustrations as he watched Celtic progress in the League Cup having played for Kilmarnock against Hamilton in the competition before his Deadline Day transfer.
