The Sun has revealed that the SFA won’t take any action over a tweet liked by Leigh Griffiths. It’s unclear who reported the matter to the Compliance Officer.

The Glasgow based publisher quickly got hold of the matter even though Griffiths deleted his ‘controversial like’.

Griffiths is a regular user of social media but has become embroiled in various controversies down the years, closing down accounts and taking long breaks. He has regularly highlighted some of the abuse aimed at him and his children.

This morning The Sun reports:

LEIGH Griffiths will face no disciplinary action from the SFA for ‘liking’ a bigoted tweet.

SunSport revealed six days ago how the Celtic striker’s Twitter account had liked a post the morning after Rangers’ defeat to Kilmarnock which contained the words “Get it up everyone of you dirty orange b*******”.

The Celtic striker insisted his action had been a mistake, unliking the tweet and issuing an apology. The 29-year-old also said he felt it was “pathetic” that the incident had become “world news”.

But now SunSport can reveal that the SFA and compliance officer Clare Whyte have accepted the player’s explanation and Griffiths will escape any censure. There is no catch-all in the association’s disciplinary procedures which deals with social media interaction.

Griffiths was also recently ‘let off’ for an alleged stamp during Celtic’s 4-1 win over Hamilton Accies.
