With the anger of Tapegate finally fading away many pundits are calling for the SFA to hand Leigh Griffiths a retrospective red card from Celtic’s 4-1 win over Hamilton on Sunday.

Ally McCoist was first out the block with his claim, soon afterwards Steven Thompson was backing up the demand followed by James McFadden.

Sky Sports News repeated the McFadden claims throughout the day while Radio Clyde and Radio Scotland led their early evening programmes with a call to get Griffiths banned.

Sensible, balanced views were noted by their absence with Hamilton boss Brian Rice discussing the issue with four matches of his touchline ban still to be served watching his team at the bottom of the SPFL Premiership table.

One twitter account has highlighted the desperation of those calling for further action by highlighting the aspects of the ‘clash’ that others would rather avoid.

Key to the incident is Woods on the ground rolling towards Griffiths as the Celtic forward attempts to get back involved in play. With his focus elsewhere Griffiths feels something at his feet, switches his weight to his left leg with his right coming down on Woods in an attempt to maintain his balance.

Media attention yesterday was all geared towards involving the Compliance Officer, if that fails to happen today it will fuel the nonsense that Celtic get some sort of preferential treatment from the SFA. Ryan Christie provides evidence of the reverse.

In 2020 Leigh Griffiths has scored three goals, three more than Alfredo Morelos with Celtic now seven points clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership table.
