Barry Ferguson wants Steven Gerrard to stay on at Ibrox and build a team in his own image. In 15 years aa a midfielder at Liverpool the Anfield legend never won the EPL.

Two months ago Fergie was telling Daily Records readers about the brilliance of the Ibrox squad but recent results have confirmed yet another false dawn.

Losing successive matches to teams at the bottom of the league is almost impossible to achieve but that is the record that Gerrard has as he prepares to face Ross County on Sunday.

Ferguson had three years managing Clyde in the bottom tier of Scottish football with one answer to whatever issues he comes up against in the game- get stuck in!

That phrase is probably lost on most of the players at Ibrox but in the unlikely event of Gerrard putting in a phone call to the Kelty Hearts boss he’ll get a predictable solution to the crisis effecting Ibrox.

In today’s Daily Record, again, Ferguson explains:

Gerrard’s character is exactly what Rangers need at the moment. What he could also do with is a few players who have the same qualities; a hatred of losing being one of them.

You can see in his interviews that he’s hurting him but I don’t need to make excuses for him in terms of why I still believe in him.

When I heard the Hamilton result I was shattered and I don’t say that lightly as there’s been a catalogue of low points since the winter break. Rock bottom as a fan and rock bottom as a team.

My only concern with Gerrard was his post-match comment that the dressing room was quiet. I understand why it would be quiet and dejected but this is Rangers and I’d expect a few heads to be rolling. Honestly, I’d love to have been in that dressing room after losing to Accies.

I’d be bursting to get the chance to call a few people out. I’d want to know why are we in this mess and how can we get out of it. If I was a player on Wednesday night I’d have waited for Gerrard and his staff to have their say. I’d give them their place and then I’d be first up.

Are we going to let this fester or are we going to f****** do something about it?

Are we going to allow people to place a spotlight on us and question us?

Are we going to continually walk off pitches and give people the opportunity to slaughter us?

Are we going to hide in a corner and feel sorry for ourselves or are we going to roll our sleeves up?

We need to take the brunt of it and prove them wrong.

Gerrard is expected to host a media conference this morning but Gary McAllister is on stand-by to explain that there is no panic at Ibrox and that football can be about small margins.
