A report in The Scotsman claims that only six SPFL clubs have adequate insurance to cover Business Disruption.

The report also claims that the SPFL recommended clubs to a policy with a limit of £500,000 but which excludes infectious or contagious diseases.

Most Scottish clubs haven’t hosted a match since the first week in March with the end of month pay-roll likely to see a number of clubs’ cash reserves dangerously low.

Insurance payments can only be made if there is an official closure from the Government but on Tuesday UEFA announced that they were hoping that domestic seasons would be completed by June 30.

Various forecasts have been made about the impact of clubs but it seems that only a handful of Scottish clubs have worthwhile insurance policies.

The Scotsman reports:

The SPFL recommended an insurance firm to cover clubs for events including interruption of or interference with the business.

In a section relating to denial of access to premises, clubs who have this particular policy are covered to a limit of £500,000 “excluding any consequence of labour disputes or infectious or contagious diseases”.

One chief executive of a Championship club who has a policy with the firm in question said he would not be surprised if most clubs were in the same position.

Indeed, The Scotsman understands only six clubs in the top four divisions are covered for the current extremely unlikely set of circumstances.

On March 11 the SPFL warned clubs to check their Business Disruption Insurance, last week Scottish Football’s Joint Response Group announced that there would definitely be no football until the end of April.
