Diplomatic Lennon side-steps the loaded question

Neil Lennon diplomatically prevented a broadcast interview from turning into a private conversation.

Former team-mate Chris Sutton wears a variety of media hats and clearly keeps close tabs on what is going on in the inside of Celtic.

Both men can use that relationship to their benefit with Lennon getting certain messages out but knowing that what is discussed in private can’t be made available for public consumption.

With football suspended since March 13 there are a number of issues unresolved with Celtic closing in on a ninth successive time.

After 30 matches the hoops have dropped just 10 points to build up a 13 point lead at the top of the table but in Glasgow no concessions are given- or expected.

The SPFL will have to make a decision at some stage on how this season is recorded/concluded but on national radio last night Lennon wasn’t giving away his private feelings.

The Daily Record reports:

5 Live pundit Sutton asked: “If Rangers were 13 points clear at the top, and the season was called to a finish would you accept that they would be the title winners?”

Lennon jokingly replied: “I wouldn’t accept anything that Rangers won, Chris.”

Former Celtic and Arsenal striker Ian Wright quickly jumped in: “He’s just being facetious, listen to him.”

Lennon responded: “I know Wrighty. He doesn’t change. That was a diplomatic answer.”

UEFA will meet on Wednesday with the clock ticking towards next season’s Champions League and Europa League qualifiers with each association having to nominate their participants.
