EPL clubs are preparing to resume fixtures on June 1 with matches played behind closed doors.

While Scottish clubs have their issues relating to lack of gate money in England the big fear is the consequences of not fulfilling TV commitments.

Sky Sports make their payments in February and August but while the February 2020 payment has been received any prolonged lay-off would almost certainly have consequences for the August 2020 pay out.

With the figures for the Coronavirus rising across Europe there is absolutely no certainty on anything but the EPL is forward planning with an optimistic date to resume and complete the season.

The Telegraph reports:

The Premier League is tentatively scheduling a plan which involves games starting from June 1, which would allow them to finish the season within the space of six weeks and begin the 2020-2021 campaign on August 8, heading off a financial catastrophe for clubs carrying huge wage bills.

The June 1 start date, in ten weeks’ time, remains a target rather than anything approaching a certainty but with the postponement of the European championships by Uefa this week this is one of the best-case scenarios being considered by the Premier League and the Football League.

On Friday March 13 Scottish Football’s Joint Response Group announced the suspension of football an hour after the English authorities postponed fixtures until April 3.

That date was put back to April 30 at a latter meeting but now it seems that a further month long delay is being planned for.

Most EPL clubs have played 29 of their 38 fixtures.
