Graeme Souness has no intention of making a rapid return to Ibrox.

Since Friday night when Dave King walked out on the club there has been speculation that the Sky Sports pundit would be taking up some sort of role but on Radio Scotland today Chick Young ruled that prospect out.

The veteran broadcaster has been a close friend of Souness since he replaced Jock Wallace as Rangers manager in 1986 and contacted him this morning to follow up on the rumours of a return to Scotland.

Souness told Radio Scotland today (13 minutes)

I spoke to Graeme Souness this morning he said me to tell whoever is interested that he is not coming back. There has been no approach, he is very heavily involved with his television work, for more than one channel, newspaper work various other things, he is very deeply involved with several charities.

He wouldn’t have the time on his hands but still, in the years to come, when his contract is finished (we’re talking years away, I know exactly when his Sky contract finishes) who knows, if he was asked and if he thought that he would be of use at some time he could be involved with ‘Rangers’ in some capacity.

In April 1991 Souness walked out as Rangers manager in the home straight of a title race with Aberdeen.
