John Hartson has suggested a solution to help take the some of the sting and anger out of Scottish football.

The Welshman has spent 20 years immersed in the game, experiencing every controversy possible with the major honours never straying far from Glasgow.

At the new year a classic shoot-out was being predicted but since returning from Dubai in January Celtic have been virtually faultless domestically while Steven Gerrard’s side have crashed almost out of contention.

Neil Lennon’s side opened up a 13 point lead before the action was suspended with the Scottish game in limbo as it awaits the next move.

Everyone wants to see the season being completed but if that isn’t possible by the end of the summer some big decisions will have to be made by Neil Doncaster and Ian Maxwell.

At the weekend the BBC ran a simulation that predicted Celtic were 98.87% to win the 2019/20 title with Hartson urging the Ibrox club to follow that if it comes to the crunch:

He told Radio Scotland:

Rangers would come away with an awful lot of credit if they were to say ‘you have been worthy champions, you have a massive lead’. I think they would come out of it with huge respect and gratitude.

I can honestly say I’d be saying exactly the same if Rangers had the lead. Celtic have got to probably lose five of their last eight games to be overtaken. Let’s be realistic, that isn’t going to happen.

While one mystery club has raised the prospect of declaring the season Null and Void that decision could result in compensation claims from broadcasters and sponsors.

Scottish footballs Joint Response Group are expected to provide an update later today.
