Jackie McNamara has been discharged from hospital and has been home eating a Chinese takeaway according to Simon Donnelly.

On February 10 the football world was shocked to hear that the former Celtic defender had collapsed and was rushed to hospital close to his home in York.

McNamara was transferred to a hospital in Hull where he underwent brain surgery as former team-mates joined his family in support of the 46-year-old.

The McNamara family asked for privacy but after a frantic few weeks Simon Donnelly has been able to share good news.

The Sun reports:

Close friend Simon Donnelly revealed the news speaking on BBC Off the Ball. He said: “There’s some great news, he got home. He has obviously been through the mill in the last three weeks since everything happened.

“But they have now deemed him fit enough to go home and I believe he had a Chinese takeaway last night. The signs are good. He’s getting there, it’s going to be a long recovery for him but he’s getting there.”

After his playing days ended McNamara had spells in management with Partick Thistle, Dundee United and York City.

Over the last couple of years he has moved into a football consultancy role with Callum McGregor and Greg Taylor among his clients.

In 1998 McNamara helped Stop The Ten then enjoyed further success at Celtic under the management of Martin O’Neill.
