Lewis Morgan has opened up on his brief Celtic career that led to the life changing move to Inter Miami.

While working with Neil Lennon’s squad in Dubai the winger got the phone call that set in motion one of the most surprising transfers of the season.

In two years as a Celtic player he only started 11 first team matches either side of loan spells at St Mirren and Sunderland.

St Mirren and Hibs would happily have taken Morgan on loan in January while it wouldn’t have been too difficult to find an English Championship side to stump up a transfer fee.

Ryan Christie and Kris Ajer used loan spells to catapult themselves into the Celtic first team but after a brief spell as a striker winning a League Cup medal and scoring against Rennes in the Europa League Morgan opted for something very left-field.

He told the BBC website:

“At a club like Celtic, you don’t always get the chance to build up a run of five or six games,” Morgan says. “For whatever reason, it just didn’t work out, but then if it had, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to come out here, so I’m looking at it from that perspective.”

He also seems relieved to be out of the infamous Glasgow goldfish bowl.

“The pressure on the pitch, for me, will be the same – If you’re not feeling that pressure, you’re not doing anything worthwhile, but I think off the pitch it will be a little more relaxed from a lifestyle perspective.”

That last statement could be an early contender for understatement of the year.
