No answers and no club tie as dejected Gerrard faces the media after Hamilton defeat

|

Steven Gerrard had no answers, and no club tie as he faced an in-house interview after watching his side lose 1-0 at home to Hamilton Accies.

A 56th minute goal from David Moyo separated the two teams to leave the gap at the top of the SPFL standing at 13 points with Celtic having just nine matches left to play.

Image and traditions mean everything at Ibrox with the sight of Gerrard speaking without a club tie bound to infuriate the hard-line fans.

On Tuesday when he faced the media the Liverpool legend declared that he was ‘All In’ after the despair of being knocked out of the Scottish Cup on Saturday by Hearts.

Tonight’s defeat will pile the pressure on Gerrard who looked a broken man as he was questioned on his side’s fourth defeat since returning from their winter break in Dubai.

YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT

Well look, we were playing bottom of the league and we’ve just lost to bottom of the league so I think that you know how I’m feeling. I didn’t think that I could feel any worse than I did after Hearts but I do right now

Look, the story of the game was that we were the better team and created lots and lots of chances but we didn’t have the quality to take them chances.

And when that happens you leave yourself edgy at the back and you also give the opposition the chance to go and snatch three points away from you. That’s what Hamilton have done.

HAVE YOU SPOKE TO THE PLAYERS AFTER TONIGHT’S GAME?

Yeap, we’ve spoke to them and the dressing room is very quiet. We had a discussion, I’m asking questions, em, asking for reasons why we played ourselves into this rut and why confidence is so low. I’ve got real good players in the dressing room and these don’t look like the players that were doing ever so well a short time ago.

So we all have to stick together, roll on and play our way out of it because we’ve played our way into it and only have ourselves to blame.

HOW DO YOU PLAY OUT OF THIS RUT?

It’s tough, it’s tough. With all due respect to Hamilton this is a game that we should be winning, and, em, we are guilty of not taking our chances and putting Hamilton away today.

We’ve got ourselves to blame, again another mistake has cost us and the points go away. You know there was an opportunity tonight, Celtic have blinked with one eye but we’ve blinked with two which is extremely disappointing.
