Jim Goodwin would have no complaints if Celtic are handed the SPFL title.

The St Mirren boss has his own battles to fight with his side just five points above bottom placed Hearts with three matches left to play before the post-split fixtures get under-way.

When that happens is the big question facing the SPFL with the country on the brink of lockdown to try to reduce the impact of Coronavirus.

The SPFL resisted the temptation to follow the English authorities who initially announced a suspension until April 3 with the Scottish game put on hold until further notice.

St Mirren should have been enjoying a televised home match against Steven Gerrard’s side but with that fixture never likely Goodwin has considered the bigger picture.

He told the Daily Record:

I wouldn’t want to be in Ian Maxwell or Neil Doncaster’s shoes. We’re all in a difficult situation and I can only imagine what clubs like Celtic, Hearts and Dundee United are going through.

But if the season can’t be finished then I see no problem with Celtic or United being proclaimed champions – they’re so far ahead and have been out in front for months.

Relegation would seem unfair on Hearts though as they still have a fighting chance of staying up.

St Mirren were at Celtic Park just over a fortnight ago, losing 5-0 to Neil Lennon’s side before bouncing back four days later to beat Hearts, it could be a long wait for another SPFL match in Paisley.
