The Sun has a report that Celtic are on the verge of completing a new kit deal with Adidas.

Celtic’s current five-year deal with New Balance runs out at the end of this season with rumours of a switch, and photo-shopped kit illustrations, doing the rounds on social media over the last six months.

The story in The Sun doesn’t provide any fresh detail, they report:

SunSport understands talks are ongoing over a long-term deal with Adidas – for even more cash. If concluded, it would be the biggest kit contract in Scottish football history and would start next season.

Several leading brands have been fighting to replace New Balance as Celtic kit supplier but Adidas are thought to be at the front of the queue after top-level discussions.

The current deal with New Balance was reported to be worth at least £25m over five years with the next deal expected to be a substantial uplift on that figure.

New Balance kits haven’t been well received by fans with the current kit criticised for appearing ‘too white’ with a missing green hoop missing from the front. The first team has still to wear the controversial third kit of pink and silver.

Nike and Adidas are regarded as the elite kit suppliers with brands that are associated with the highest quality and worldwide reach across a whole range of sports.

Changing supplier is kept confidential for as long as possible to ensure continued sales for the current supplier.

The switch from Nike to New Balance was announced on 5 March 2015 which would suggest that an announcement for the next deal will soon be made.
