Scottish football has no plans for a lockdown to combat Coronavirus.

Fixtures in Switzerland and Italy have been postponed because of the virus with dire predictions about its impact across the world.

On Sunday night the first confirmed case was reported in Scotland with a major UK Government action plan being announced this morning.

Concerns have been raised over the Olympics and European Championships going ahead but at the moment that possibility is some way off for Scottish football.

The Daily Record reports:

SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and his SPFL counterpart Neil Doncaster have been placed in charge of a response group which has been scrambled with the government warning the killer disease is about to hit the country hard.

First minister Nicola Sturgeon says Scotland is bracing itself for a ‘significant outbreak’ after chief medical officer Catherine Calderwood warned that ‘peak’ infection rate could be up to 80% of the population across Scotland – and estimated that up to 250,000 people could face a hospital admission.

But Record Sport can reveal there have been no discussions about a potential lockdown of Scottish football, even though countries across Europe have already acted to postpone top-flight matches or play them behind closed doors. It’s understood any such drastic action would only be taken if the football authorities receive instructions to do so either by from Holyrood or No.10.

One option for the football authorities would be to play matches behind closed doors.

That would hardly provide a solution however with more fans expected to go to pubs to watch matches.

With Celtic 12 points clear and 10 matches left to play in the SPFL it is possible for Neil Lennon’s squad to secure the title in April.
