Celtic look certain to hold onto the Scottish Cup throughout the summer with the SFA conceding that this season’s competition is unlikely to be completed.

Neil Lennon’s side are due to play Aberdeen in the semi-final of the 2019/20 competition as they bid to become the first club to win the trophy four seasons running.

Since the suspension of football was announced on Friday the emphasis has been put on league matches with European competitions and Internationals put on the back-burner.

UEFA meet on Tuesday to discuss the Champions League, Europa Cup, Euro 2020 and the Nations League with the SFA left trying to fit in three matches with this season’s final scheduled for May 9.

Hampden in the sun is the dream for all clubs when they start out in the competition but an autumn final is looking much more likely.

The Sun reports:

THE 2019/20 Scottish Cup could be completed NEXT season under shock plans. SunSport understands the SFA want to play the semis and final at the start of the new campaign.

With refunds due for the Israel Play Off match, four Euro 2020 games planned for Hampden this summer likely to be put back and Scotland’s prospects of taking part likely to be delayed for 12 months the SFA will take a huge financial hit from the Coronavirus.

An early conclusion to the 2019/20 competition will be a priority for the SFA who recently took over the ownership of Hampden and committed to a range of improvements required for staging Euro 2020 matcheS.

William Hills sponsorship of the Scottish Cup ends with the current competition.
