SPFL Premiership clubs held a 10am conference call this morning as the suspension of football goes into a third weekend.

Half of the clubs haven’t hosted a home match since March 7 with Hearts and Aberdeen the first to flag up their financial concerns.

The Edinburgh side are trying to enforce a 50% pay cut across the board while Aberdeen have brought forward season ticket sales to minimise the impact of £1.2m a month running costs.

Yesterday the SPFL made advance payments on prize money but with nine top flight clubs picking up £125,000 that money won’t go very far.

BBC Scotland reports:

A series of meetings to discuss the pressing financial issues involving all 42 SPFL clubs began early on Friday.

The Scottish Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two will hold their own video conferences, with the top-flight one starting at 10:00 GMT.

Last week, similar meetings took place with one SPFL chairman describing it as “underwhelming”. However, on this occasion, the cash problems facing all clubs are likely to be at the forefront of discussions.

Most clubs are facing up to the postponement of four of five home matches but the biggest worry is over season ticket sales.

Springtime is the traditional launch for the lifeline money that keeps clubs going through the close season as they determine budgets and contracts for the following season.

With no clear message on this season or next fans are very reluctant to commit with so much uncertainty over employment and the economy.
