Scotland’s Joint Response Group are hoping for Government guidance on how to treat the current football season.

It seems highly unlikely that there won’t be any games played for at least two months but on Wednesday UEFA announced that they were hoping that domestic leagues would be concluded by the end of June.

The UK government appears to be behind the curve in dealing with the Coronavirus but are planning a comprehensive range of measures.

At the weekend there were reports that the UK Government would announce that football is over for the season but that would leave Scotland caught between UEFA and Westminster.

BBC Scotland reports:

Senior figures in Scottish football will scrutinise the government’s Coronavirus White Paper before deciding the way forward for the domestic game.

The Coronavirus Bill, which will contain emergency powers, is expected to be fast-tracked through Parliament next week.

With the season paused due to the outbreak, some clubs find themselves in a precarious financial situation.

Like Scotland in England there is a massive debate going on about how to deal with a season that is 80% completed.

While clubs in League One and Two are fearful of going out of business clubs in contention for a place in the EPL are arguing over the £100m plus windfall of a season in the top flight.

An early decision from Westminster would allow the SPFL to make a final pay-out allowing clubs to survive in the short term but that could put them in conflict with UEFA.
