It was entirely predictable and added nothing constructive to the debate and discussion.

Like others Chris Sutton saw it coming, it was simply a matter of timing.

No solution was offered, no suggestion was made- just a box ticking exercise to appease supporters as they come to terms with a two point gap that developed into 13 despite a far friendlier run of fixtures.

So far this season Steven Gerrard’s side have played five away matches against the teams currently in the top half of the table. Those same sides have been to Ibrox eight times.

That is one aspect of sporting integrity that Robertson won’t go near.

Robertson’s rallying call came at almost the same time as Scottish football’s Joint Response Group was putting out an update.

Behind the scenes it seems that the SPFL are preparing to announce the current positions as the final placings, as a concession relegation will be scrapped creating one season with a 14 team top flight.

UEFA host a video conference tomorrow; Scottish football will await any announcements before planning their next move which will aim at unlocking the £25m prize pool available to clubs through the SPFL.
