Aberdeen players have been spoken to by the police after resuming a form of group training.

According to a report on BBC Scotland the players were using an open space but maintaining social distance.

The Dons were scheduled to play at Motherwell on March 13 but on the morning of that fixture the SPFL announced that all football in Scotland was suspended.

Derek McInnes’ side were sitting in fourth place, one point behind Motherwell, and were scheduled to play Celtic in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup this weekend.

In Norway and Germany players have returned to training but social distancing is essential with only general fitness work allowed.

BBC Scotland reports:

A group of Aberdeen players were spoken to by police, but not issued with a warning, while training close together in a city park.

Since the Scottish Premiership outfit closed its Cormack Park and Pittodrie bases, the players have been given a training programme to do remotely.

Midfielder Funso Ojo posted footage of the incident on Instagram on Monday. Aberdeen said the players did train, but that it was in an open space and not part of an organised session.

They added that the players followed guidelines regarding social distancing and that police gave them advice about spreading out further across the park.

In an interview with Chris Sutton last week on 5 Live Neil Lennon revealed that some Celtic players were training at Lennoxtown with two at a time allowed into the training base with no contact allowed.
