Ann Budge seems to be killing off any hope of SPFL Reconstruction as she attempts to create a way to keep Hearts in the top flight.

It seems like an incredible own goal from the SPFL or perhaps making the Hearts chief joint-chair of the Task Force was designed to ensure the status quo remained in place.

On Friday Budge told listeners to BBC 5Live that she didn’t think that Celtic should be awarded the 2019/20 title without completing all 38 matches.

Saturday afternoon she switched to BBC Scotland’s Sportsound programme where she explained that Reconstruction should be a temporary fix. The following day co-chair Les Gray put her right on that as they prepared to join 13 other club representatives in the Task Force.

Yesterday Leeann Dempster of Hibs quit the task force with Graham Tatters of Elgin describing the Task Force as a joke.

He told the Daily Record:

Reconstruction doesn’t appeal to us at all. There’s so much else going on in football and in the world that to rush it through now would just be a fudge. We would rather have proper time to discuss it. It’s just a bad idea right now.

Ann Budge is already talking about making a temporary change. But you can’t tell me it’s from the point of view of what is best for Scottish football as a whole.

We all know they’ll bring in 14-14-14 or, more likely 14-10-10-10, by bringing in Kelty and Brora. You could write the script now. To do all this temporarily is simply just a fudge. It’s to keep certain clubs happy.

Everyone will have their own self-interests so the task force have their work cut out. But if you’re talking about a temporary change, how is that going to affect teams down the line. How will that affect sponsorship in the future?

Then if you add another two teams to the mix it would dilute the money even further. So every club in the country will lose out.

The lower-league clubs will be hit hardest because you can’t tell me the money won’t stay in the Premiership. It will be split 14 ways rather than work its way down, that’s for sure.

It is unclear whether Reconstruction requires an 11-1 vote from the Premiership or 75% of the votes.
