The Belgian Pro-League has broken UEFA unity with their recommendation that Club Brugge are declared as 2019/20 champions without the fixtures having been completed.

On Wednesday UEFA held a video conference with all 55 national associations as they attempted to give guidance through a period of great uncertainty.

The needs of summer leagues such as Iceland and Norway are clearly far different to Spain and Italy but it seems that UEFA planning is geared around giving the richer leagues the best opportunity of fulfilling their broadcast commitments.

Like Scotland the Belgian TV deal doesn’t dominate the entire domestic game with the Pro League deciding to give clubs the chance to plan ahead for a new season rather than tie up the loose ends of a season 80% completed.

After 29 rounds of fixtures Club Brugge have a 15 point lead, in Scotland Celtic are 13 points clear after 30 fixtures. Neil Lennon’s side have dropped 10 points over 30 matches with eight rounds still to be played.
