Charlie Nicholas has claimed that people in Scotland are bogged down with Celtic’s chase for 10-in-a-row.

The Sky Sports pundit came up with the line as he discussed the prospect of Odsonne Edouard leaving for Arsenal or another EPL side.

It seems that Nicholas is out of touch with recent events where transfers are the last thing that clubs are considering as they cope with unprecedented times.

The prospects of a summer transfer market are in doubt, should there be any business it is likely to be drastically downscaled with clubs loathe to spend big money in financially challenging times.

Clubs in the EPL have started to realise that they are heavily dependent on television money with Burnley admitting that they will run out of funds in August.

Despite all of those circumstances Nicholas has decided to downplay the possibility of the greatest domestic achievement in Celtic’s history, the club that introduced him into professional football.

Nicholas told Sky Sports:

He’s had his best goalscoring season and he’s scored quite a few in Europe so you are not just judging him on his tally in Scottish football. In the last six months, we have seen that defenders have tried to get physical by kicking him, we have seen him start to react in a good way.

Before, he might go missing for 20 or 25 minutes, but now when that happens, he gets agitated and tries even harder. As a result, he’s become Celtic’s key player and best by a distance. He will leave Celtic.

Some people are suggesting he’ll stay on next season as Celtic go in search of 10 titles in a row. People up north get so bogged down by it, but Edouard is now reaching a side of his career at 22 where, like Dembele, he will be looking at who are interested in signing him.

He’s in a position where he can take his time with this. Recently, there has been links with Borussia Dortmund and they have come back saying he’s not ready for them at this point because they have got Erling Haaland, but he’s also been marked down as a potential Arsenal player.

Edouard is under contract with Celtic until June 2022 and has given off no signals that he is in any rush to cut short his deal.
