Chris Sutton believes that Celtic will be the big losers if the SPFL plan for the 2019/20 season is pushed through.

Yesterday the board of the SPFL proposed that the final tables in The Championship, League One and League Two is decided by average points won per game.

If approved that would allow the SPFL to pay out on their final prize money for the season. If it’s voted down some clubs might find that their April pay-roll is a struggle with fans left in the dark over next season’s fixture list.

The SPFL will give the Premiership fixtures additional time to be resolved but if there is no let up on the impact of the pandemic the same formula will be applied to the top flight.

If approved there will be no title clinching fixture, no end of season presentation day with the semis and final of the Scottish Cup already pushed back to some future date.

Sutton discussed the issues on BBC 5 Live last night with the Daily Record reporting:

I think Celtic are the team who are going to lose out in all this. If they shut the season down, Celtic are going to miss out on the chance of another Treble, aren’t they?

If they shut the season down there’ll be no Scottish Cup, so they’ll lose out on that opportunity. I’ve lost how count of how many Trebles they’ve won so Celtic are the losers in all this.

The SPFL clubs will vote on Friday on the proposals for the three lower divisions.
