Jermain Defoe has done his bit to help sell Alfredo Morelos by telling Sky Sports viewers that the Colombian will score goals at any level.

In January yet another transfer window came and went without a bid being placed for the Ibrox striker, even interest from mystery clubs in China seems to have been dropped.

Seven red cards in 17 months have highlighted one of Morelos’ problems while a total of no goals in three seasons against Celtic is unlikely to have clubs racing to make a bid.

Since Steven Gerrard took charge two years ago only Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias have brought in transfer fees with genuine interest in players almost non-existent.

Despite those uncomfortable facts Defoe had to talk up his team mate with The Sun picking up on the Sky Sports interview:

Alf’s a natural scorer and a top player. I feel like he needs to be in a team that creates chances — but if he gets those chances he can score at any level.

He’s got that arrogance that he believes he can score in every game. Last year he scored 31 goals and now he’s got 29. He went through a spell where he’s not scored for a bit.

He gets frustrated because he has that desire — and in the right team if you create he will score.

The natural goal scorer has scored one goal in 2020, missing games through suspensions from the SFA, UEFA and his own club for returning late from compassionate leave in Colombia.
