Neil Doncaster has confirmed that a Null & Void season could see Scottish clubs barred from UEFA competitions with other issues following on.

Alex Rae and a number of other Ibrox apologists have been on full attack mode over the SPFL proposal to settle the divisions based on average points per game. Null & Void is rarely mentioned but anything that denies Celtic a ninth successive title is clearly welcome.

Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers have already been awarded their titles and prize money with the SPFL having the backing of more than 80% of their member clubs to decide the Premiership on the same basis.

Playing for time seems to be the preferred tactic to halt Celtic but Doncaster told the Glasgow Times that Null & Void isn’t an option:

UEFA have made it clear that clubs have to be put forward for Europe on sporting merit. If you voiding a league it’s quite hard to see how teams can be put forward on sporting merit. We feel deciding a league on a points per game basis is sporting merit.

There are all sorts of other factors. If it’s voided you would find a number of clubs and the league would face highly-damaging claims for a season that never happened. It could have led potentially to claims being made by partners of the league and of clubs themselves.

Despite some reports claiming that the Dutch League has been declared Null & Void that is not the case. Ajax and Alkmaar are both being nominated for the Champions League based on their performances over the season to date with both teams level on points.
