Stewart Regan has pleaded with SPFL clubs to remain objective and not act in self-interest over league reconstruction!

That is the guy that was chief executive of the SFA in 2012 who ran around warning of social unrest if one club went into liquidation.

Regan was on the verge of meltdown in the summer of 2012 before he concocted The Five Way Agreement with other key figures to raise Rangers from the dead.

Within six months of their CVA being rejected a new club was running around claiming that they had been Scottish champions 53.5 times with other honours inherited from a different club.

The Five Way Agreement was so called because it was made between the SFA, SPL, SFL, Sevco Scotland and BDO for the liquidated club.

League reconstruction is again under discussion with Regan, who hasn’t had any direct involvement in sport since leaving the SFA two years ago, sharing his tainted opinion.

Picking up on his interview with the Daily Mail, The Sun reports Regan saying:

Reconstruction comes round every few years. It can create some really positive opportunities providing there are some clear objectives at the outset.

What’s different this time around is that it’s actually reconstruction that’s being discussed as a result of crisis.

Whenever that’s the case, you’ve got to somehow remain objective and try and make sure you are doing things, not for self-interest, but for the benefit of the game.

I just hope that what comes out of reconstruction isn’t an outcome that protects the few that it’s a conclusion that looks at what’s in the best interests of Scottish football.

I would include the Highland, Lowland, Juniors and even the amateur game in that as well. It can’t just look at what’s right for the existing 42 clubs.

It seems that a proposal for three leagues of 14 will be put to the SPFL board but that would require 75% approval from the Premiership, Championship and clubs in League One and Two combined.
