League Two clubs have got together to ensure that the only reconstruction proposal will be for three leagues of 14. It is not yet clear if this is a temporary or permanent change.

The proposal has a number of hurdles to get through before it comes into practise with the impact on Celtic seeing Hearts and Inverness Caley Thistle being added to the top flight alongside Dundee United.

A reconstruction Task Force was set up following the vote to call the SPFL divisions based on average points per game.

BBC Scotland reports:

Scottish League Two clubs have agreed to back a 14-14-14 structure – meaning any other reconstruction plan would almost certainly falter if they do.

A 15-strong group met twice last week to begin talks over potential changes to the current 12-10-10-10 model. Should the SPFL remain at 42 clubs and prize money distribution stay the same, any plan would need 75% support.

But no other proposal would get the 15 votes needed in the bottom two tiers if the League Two clubs vote as planned.

No further details are available with the top division needing a split to avoid a 52 game season!

Whether that is a top six, seven or eight will be up for discussion but it’s hard to see clubs voting to switch from the current set up to effectively save Hearts and Partick Thistle from relegation.

Aberdeen have been most public in their opposition to reconstruction, any increase in top flight fixtures is also expected to be opposed by Celtic while approval from Sky Sports will be critical to any changes.
