Brendan Rodgers has shown the first sign of regret over the way that he walked out on Celtic.

After beating Motherwell on Sunday February 24, the Irishman was evasive when he was questioned about the vacancy that had opened up at Leicester City earlier that day.

Rodgers took training as normal on the Monday with Scott Bain put up to face the media for Wednesday’s match away to Hearts.

That afternoon the manager cleared out his belongings and headed south to complete his move to Leicester with Chris Davies, Kolo Toure and Glen Driscoll two steps behind.

By early on Tuesday evening Rodgers was devoting his life to Leicester with Neil Lennon appointed as Celtic caretaker.

Celtic fans made their feelings known at Tynecastle, over the course of 48 hours Rodgers had destroyed his legacy that had delivered eight out of eight domestic trophies.

Picking up on an interview with the Leicester boss The Sun reports:

I loved every second of being there and I understand when I left it maybe wasn’t the ideal time and there was a lot of hurt.

But that’s the professional side, this is my life and this is my work. It’s not just a hobby, football is my life and my work.

Celtic picked up around £9m in compensation from Leicester for Rodgers breaking his contract.
