Neil Lennon believes that his Celtic players are the big losers from the suspension of football.

At the turn of the year the hoops boss was hearing how inadequate his squad was with reinforcements required throughout his squad.

Ismaila Soro and Patryk Klimala were signed in January but the form of Lennon’s squad has left the two new signings struggling to find a place on the Celtic bench.

Despite a tougher fixture list and fresh noise from across the city Celtic reeled off 28 points out of 30 in 2020 while booking their place in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.

Lennon’s squad should be looking to add to the League Cup they collected in December but instead of going for trophies the players are waiting on word of when they can meet up again and start training.

Speaking to the club website Lennon said:

The players are the ones who’ve lost out the most in terms of the opportunity to play in front of the supporters. We’re going for nine-in-a-row and a quadruple treble, and I feel sorry for them at this stage, in a footballing sense.

Hopefully at some stage it can be started up again, but if not, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens and the outcomes of what that is going to be.

Last week SPFL clubs voted to award titles based on average points won per game which would give Celtic their ninth successive title but a statement from the SPFL will be little consolation to creating history on the pitch as the first club to win 9-in-a-row twice.
