Every Celtic fan knows the significance of May 25 but this century April 29 has turned out to be a real Red Letter Day.
Back at the turn of the century Martin O’Neill took his champions to Ibrox, earlier in the season the hoops had ‘came unstuck’ losing 5-1 to the reigning champions.
After a quiet first half Celtic saved their best for the visiting fans in the Broomloan Road. Lubo Moravcik scored twice with the icing on the cake supplied by Henrik Larsson with his 50th goal of the season..
It was more than a decade before the Glasgow derby again fell on April 29. Again Celtic were the champions, again the scoreline was 3-0 on a day that no Celtic fan will ever forget.
More recently there has been two five goal hammerings dished out with Brendan Rodgers’ side in their pomp.
In 2017, six days after winning a Scottish Cup semi-final, the hoops hit five at Ibrox with each goal carrying a magic of its own- topped off by the greatest strike of Mikael Lustig’s career.
Rolling the clock forward there was a title to be won in 2018. Odsonne Edouard wasn’t messing about, Lustig borrowed a police hat with the biggest surprise being that the scoreline was kept down to five.
Who knows what future joy April 29 has in store for Celtic fans?
