The SPFL board members will tune in again tonight at 5pm for a conference call but it’ll be short and sweet unless Dundee decide to vote.

Since Friday’s Firewall issue Scottish football has been waiting on the decisive Championship vote to finalise positions and pay out prize money.

Statements and accusations flew about from Ibrox and the SPFL but in truth the game is at exactly the same stage as it has been since Friday’s stalemate was announced.

Ibrox MD Stewart Robertson has a foot in both camps but the stumbling block appears to be Dundee’s demand for league reconstruction to be included in any deal.

Increasing the top flight to 14 or 16 clubs would require an 11-1 vote in favour from the current Premiership sides.

There seems no obvious breakthrough, covering yesterday’s low key events Keith Jackson in the Daily Record reports:

As far as the SPFL board is concerned, Nelms (Dundee owner, John) and his flip-flops have done no more than kick the can down the road for 24 hours.

So they’ll be back again at 5pm tonight on the same conference call, for the same discussions. And hoping that Dundee may have finally made their minds up before they all dial in.

One source said: “It is becoming very frustrating. Effectively John Nelms and Dundee have been doing the hokey-cokey since last Friday afternoon. They’re out one minute, in the next. Meanwhile, the Scottish game remains deadlocked at a time of crisis.”

Another source close to yesterday’s top level discussions said: “Tonight’s board meeting was really only called in the expectation that Dundee would have submitted a vote.

“When it became clear they had not then a decision was taken to reconvene again at the same time tomorrow. It’s very difficult for the SPFL board to do anything until they have Dundee’s answer. Whatever that answer might be.

“Even if it’s a ‘no’ then at least discussions can then take place about coming up with a plan B that the clubs would be willing to accept. But given the splits and the anger that has been building since the end of last week, it’s becoming harder to see what kind of plan the clubs would be able to agree on.”

Through all of the discussions, statements and fall-out Celtic haven’t made any comment at any stage.
