The £2m Celtic signing that made a huge impression on Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk has revealed that Stefan Johansen was the best player that he lined up alongside during his two seasons at Celtic.

The Dutchman joined the hoops in the summer of 2013 and quickly established his class as Neil Lennon’s side won the title for the third season running.

In the January transfer window of his first season Lennon turned to Norway for a midfielder with Johansen moving to Glasgow in a £2m deal. In the summer he was re-united with his boss from Stromsgodset, Ronny Deila.

Like van Dijk ,Johansen settled quickly into the Scottish game, the following season, 2014/15 both players made 35 SPFL appearances with the midfielder scoring nine goals with the Dutchman netting four times.

In August 2015 van Dijk was sold to Southampton with his career on the up and up to the stage that he is now considered the best central defender in the world.

Johansen left Celtic a year later for Fulham where he has impressed in The Championship. The London side had a disastrous season in the EPL where he started just four matches before being loaned to West Brom in January.
