At any time of year an ‘Old Firm tug of war’ always goes down well.

Publishers know it as well as agents. For any player out of the picture conjuring up a link to Glasgow follows a predictable pattern.

The problem is the script is about 10 years out of date. Kris Commons was a genuine transfer target for both clubs in January 2011, earlier this season a familiar storyline emerged about Brandon Barker but no one seriously expected Celtic to show interest in the Manchester City flop.

Today the two Glasgow clubs are apparently interested in Caleb Ekuban- a 26-year-old jobsworth currently playing for Trabzonspor in Turkey.

The Sun reports:

He’s netted eight goals in 25 appearances this season including four strikes in the Europa League.

And Karar say the Hoops and Gers are two of a number of clubs monitoring the 26-year-old.

They say Ekuban is not looking to leave the Super Lig side and could cost around £8.7million.

The Italian, who represents Ghana, is also being targeted by Brighton who are reported to have opened talks with Trabzonspor over their star man.

With football suspended every club has been hit with a reality check, money doesn’t grow o trees, even the best run clubs will struggle beyond three months with no gate money, a freeze on Season Ticket sales and questions over television deals.

When football eventually resumes it’s highly unlikely that Celtic fans will be wearing Adidas tops with Ekuban on the back.
