Ann Budge suffered the humiliation of watching Hearts get relegated on a video conference call!

On Thursday she received the Ibrox dossier calling for an independent investigation into the SPFL vote to finish the season based on average points per game.

After digesting the contents that she bad backed for the SPFL EGM it was time to join her Premiership colleagues to discuss League Reconstruction.

Budge was appointed co-chair of a group set up to look into changing from the current 12-10-10-10 set up with the clear brief to cushion Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer from relegation.

As the Queen of Hearts took her place on the call the outcome became very clear, covering the Hibs angle of Leeann Dempster a Daily Record source revealed:

It was a really difficult conversation for everyone to have and I think everyone on the call could feel Ann’s pain as the numbers became clear.

By the time it got around to Leeann declaring her position it was already obvious that reconstruction ?was off the table.

But it was still a really emotional and powerful moment nonetheless. Ann had to sit there and watch as one by one other clubs lined up to send Hearts down.

The SPFL are expected to give their plan for deciding the season to UEFA on May 25 with special cases being considered for next season’s UEFA competitions.

Based on the vote backed by over 80% of SPFL clubs Celtic will be champions with Hearts relegated, Dundee United will take their place in the top flight.

Unless a top flight club goes into liquidation Hearts will start next season in the Championship.
