Another Rae questions Celtic’s SPFL title claim

Gavin Rae reckons that there was still a chance that the Premiership title would have gone to Ibrox if the 2019/20 season been completed.

Technically he certainly has a point, Celtic may well have lost four of their last eight matches while Steven Gerrard galvanised his side to nine successive wins but in reality it was never going to happen.

Since Gerrard screamed into the Sky Sports cameras at the end of December he has masterminded an incredible capitulation.

In 10 SPFL matches since the two clubs visited Dubai Gerrard’s side have collected 17 out of 30 points, across the city Celtic have won 28 points despite a far tougher run of fixtures including away trips to Motherwell, Aberdeen and Livingston.

Reflecting on the current situation Rae, no relation to Alex, told the Glasgow Times:

I think the majority of players would love to see the season played out. Even if you’re Rangers, a few points behind, there are still a couple of Old Firm games and a chance. As hard as it sounds and far away as they were, there is still a chance. Though, from a Celtic point of view, it would be fair because they’re so far in front. It’s through no fault of Celtic’s own that they’ve not been able to finish the season.

Rae moved to Ibrox in January 2004 with the incentive of a disguised remuneration payment of £376,000. He lasted 35 minutes in his debut, a 3-0 defeat from Celtic, before going on to start another 23 games for the Ibrox club then joining Cardiff City at the end of his contract in June 2007.
