Chris McLaughlin has admitted that a senior club in the SPFL is in a critical condition with administration under discussion.

With most clubs having just one home match in the last two months the April pay-roll will have wiped out a large chunk of reserves.

Season ticket money usually comes in at this stage of the year but that has slowed down with most clubs only having played one home match in the last two months.

In February 2012 Rangers went into administration, in June 2013 it was Hearts with the guessing game underway about which club is in the most trouble.

Picking up on his stint on BBC Sportsound The Sun reports McLaughlin saying:

Don’t underestimate just how critical a point we’re at here. I had a conversation with someone about half an hour ago, a senior member of a senior club in Scotland, who told me that administration has been discussed.

Now, that doesn’t mean that this club in particular who I’m not going to name is ready to go into administration but it’s been discussed. If it’s been discussed at one club, it’s been discussed at a number of clubs.

Someone said to me last week that the Scottish government won’t let Scottish football go down. British Airways are talking about pulling out of Gatwick Airport and losing 12,000 jobs. It’s critical. It’s absolutely critical.

In November Dave King confirmed that there was a £10m funding shortfall at Ibrox to complete the season, in March the businessman stepped down as chairman to concentrate on his business interests in South Africa.
