Genk are reported to be keen to get rid of Ianis Hagi.

While the Scottish media drool over predictions of interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City and Spurs it seems that his Belgian club aren’t convinced by the comparisons to Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Last summer Genk were reported to have paid 10m euros for the midfielder but it seems that after half a season in the Pro League they are looking to cut their losses and ditch the starlet.

After discussing a permanent move for Eboue Kouassi Belgian site Nieuwsblad reports:

Genk also seems to get rid of Ianis Hagi (21). It has been loaned to Glasgow Rangers and they want to buy it for 5 million euros. Payment methods are currently under negotiation. In the Crystal Arena, the son of Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi was never able to break through.

Hagi moved to Ibrox on loan at the end of the January transfer window just as his new club’s title challenge began to collapse.

Defeats to Hearts and Hamilton appear to have been overlooked while a free-kick against Braga that was deflected into the net has made him the in-demand young midfielder in Europe.

With Andy Halliday and Jason Holt out of contract next month Steven Gerrard will be looking for new midfielders but it’s unlikely that Genk will accept a long term payment plan from the cash-strapped Ibrox outfit.
