Celtic may have to wait until 2021 to complete the Quadreble. By that time Neil Lennon’s side may have won a fifth successive League Cup before they get a chance to claim the 2020 Scottish Cup.

This season’s competition was suspended at the semi-final stage with Celtic set to face Aberdeen with the winners playing Hearts or Hibs in the final.

The SFA have been hot hard by the suspension, losing three money spinning cup ties, a Euro 2020 play-off against Israel and four matches at the European Championship Finals.

Yesterday the Scottish Government issued their road map out of Lockdown but there was no mention of when crowds will be allowed back to watch football, even under social distancing conditions.

Ian Maxwell was asked on Scotland Tonight if this seasons competition could be completed in 2021 with the Daily Record reporting the SFA Chief Executive saying:

We don’t know, we want to play them in front of supporters, there’s a big financial imperative.

Depending on what the numbers of supporters are, we want to try and give it a bit of time to see how that unfolds over the next few months before we make a decision.

We would look at it, we would look at it. You then start to get fixture challenges, depending on how the season plays out and how the fixture calendar looks at that point.

We would need to make a decision at some point but we’re committed to playing the competition to its completion

Celtic entered this season’s Scottish Cup on January 18 with an away tie against Partick Thistle, if a similar schedule is followed the hoops could still be involved in the 2020 competition when their involvement in the 2021 tournament begins.
