Celtic blocked a loan move for Marian Shved in January because it wouldn’t involve him speaking English.

The winger joined Celtic in January 2019 from Kalmaty Lviv and was instantly sent back on loan to the Ukrainian side.

Since returning to Celtic for pre-season training Shved hasn’t been involved in any media work with claims that his English is extremely limited.

Struggling Spanish Second Division side Deportivo Lugo offered to take the winger on loan but a link up with fellow Ukrainian Vasyl Kravets was ruled out by Celtic on language grounds.

Kravets told The Sun:

Marian almost signed for us on loan in the last transfer window. He was happy to come here but Celtic blocked the move. They wanted him to sign for a team that was closer to Glasgow.

He would only be allowed to move to a team where he could communicate in English, so the deal was off.

So far Shved has made two substitute appearances for Celtic- in July coming on to score against Nomme Kalju followed by a five minute run out against Clyde in the Scottish Cup soon after the transfer window closed.

Shved signed a four and a half year contract with Celtic, keeping him at the club until June 2023.
