Chris Sutton has delivered a typical put down to Gareth McAuley’s slight on Celtic’s title success.

On Sunday the former Northern Ireland defender used his column in The Sunday Life to describe the 2019/20 Premiership title win as tainted and hollow.

Those quotes were picked up on by Scottish publishers on Monday as fans googled to find out details of the defender’s career which included a final pay day at Ibrox during the 2018/19 season.

As a free agent McAuley signed a season long deal at Ibrox just after the summer 2018 transfer window closed.

He made his debut as a very late substitute in the 4-3 defeat away to Spartak Moscow a month before his 39th birthday.

In total he made seven SPFL appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side with the last one coming in the 2-1 defeat to Jordan Jones’ Kilmarnock following the winter break in Tenerife.

A week later he played in the 3-1 Scottish Cup win away to Cowdenbeath but after that Steven Gerrard rotated around Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson and Joe Worrall for the central defensive positions.
