Anyone involving Scot Gardiner in a WhatsApp chat has had their card well and truly marked.

The Inverness Caley Thistle chief executive isn’t to be trusted. If he doesn’t get his way he is likely to get parts of your chat published by BBC Scotland.

Gardiner was devastated when he discovered that Championship clubs hadn’t voted to reject the motion from the SPFL board to decide the season based on average points per game.

Football wise it meant little to Gardiner’s current club. Despite that he had been lobbying hard. From his conversations he thought that Hibs and Aberdeen were against the SPFL proposal.

In the Championship Gardiner was sure that he could count on Dundee and Partick Thistle to vote against.

Three weeks after being painted as the villain of the day Nelms has given his side of the story to the Dundee based Evening Telegraph.

George Cran: The WhatsApp messages (between Nelms and other Championship club bosses, leaked in the days after the initial vote deadline passed). Did that influence your thought process?

John Nelms: It’s unbelievable. The way that was handled was not businesslike and was very poor. It has caused a lot of bad blood throughout the league, the way that was done, taking private messages and putting them out there. Of course, they have been taken out of context at some levels because you don’t know exactly what was going on and what the conversations were. There were a lot of conversations going on at that time, loads of them, so you don’t get the full context of it but you do get one view and that’s what they wanted.

Despite voting against the SPFL proposal Inverness Caley Thistle have received and banked their payment for finish second in The Championship.

Since his starring role on BBC Scotland’s Sportsound show on April 11 Gardiner hasn’t made any further media appearances.
