Mark Wilson has urged Neil Lennon to sign up Lewis Ferguson from Aberdeen.

Following in the footsteps of his dad and uncle would seem to be the more logical but the same suggestions were being made in 2015 about Scott Allan.

Ferguson is in his second season at Aberdeen after making the breakthrough at his hometown club, Hamilton Accies.

Celtic are exceptionally well off for midfielders with Scott Brown and Callum McGregor the heart-beat of Neil Lennon’s side with Ryan Christie, Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham enjoying spells in the side.

Celtic also have Ismaila Soro to call on while Luca Connell, Kerr McInroy and others are waiting to get their chance.

Wilson was asked to select five SPFL players that Celtic should be looking to sign, explaining Ferguson, he told The Sun:

I know his family is well steeped in Rangers history and the boy himself is a Rangers fan. Whether or not he would want to go to Celtic, who knows but if you’re talking about furthering your career and a club like Celtic come in for you who could potentially be playing at the top level in the Champions League, then it would take a brave man to turn that down.

I think his quality is there to see. I think he’s a combative midfielder who can break up play but can also score you goals.

And with Scott Brown coming to the tail-end of his career in the next couple of seasons then with Lewis Ferguson only being 20 already having the experience of going from a smaller club to a bigger club in Aberdeen and having the experience of playing under the pressures that come with a club like Aberdeen, I think he could quite easily take the step up again and I don’t think he’d be a bad signing to fit into that Celtic midfield.”

The other players that Wilson said Celtic should be looking to sign were Hearts pair John Souttar and Aaron Hickey, Lawrence Shankland and David Turnbull.
